Young Writers Gather in Thrissur, Celebrating Boundless Imagination

In a vibrant celebration of youthful creativity, 35 young authors from across Kerala converged in Thrissur this weekend for a two-day literary meet. The event, organized by the Kerala State Council for Child Welfare, brought together children who have already published their own books, showcasing the remarkable talent brewing in the state’s youngest literary circles.

Vaishakhan’s Inspiring Words

Writer Vaishakhan set the tone with an uplifting inauguration speech that captured the essence of childhood creativity. His voice warm with conviction, he reminded everyone that children are “the greatest wonder on Earth,” capable of absorbing vast knowledge and transforming their experiences into extraordinary creations.

“Reading is creation,” he said, stressing the importance of empathy and sensitivity in writing.

He urged the young writers to read widely and observe the world closely, noting that imagination flourishes through observation and experience. With gentle wisdom, he also cautioned against comparisons—every child possesses unique abilities and a distinct voice worth nurturing.

A Celebration of Achievement

The gathering wasn’t just about inspiration; it was a recognition of accomplishment. A highlight came with the release of Andhakarathile Prakashabindu, the second book by visually impaired writer Lakshmi Prasoon, a 2022 Ujjwala Balya Puraskar winner. Vaishakhan and writer Ashokan Charuvil unveiled the cover together, marking a moment of collective pride.

Looking Ahead

Over two days, the young authors engaged in sessions covering storytelling, language, imagination, reading, and writing. The event also included literary discussions and a cultural evening, fostering both creativity and community. The writings produced during the camp will be compiled into a book by the Council—a lasting testament to the power of young minds coming together to create.
