AIIMS-Mangalagiri land swap paves way for key Amaravati road project

The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has cleared a significant land transfer that could accelerate infrastructure development in Andhra Pradesh's capital region. In a move aimed at balancing public health interests with urban connectivity, the Centre has agreed to allocate 3.34 acres from the AIIMS-Mangalagiri campus for the construction of the E-13 Road Extension Corridor.

Strategic land swap

The arrangement isn't a simple land grab—it's a carefully negotiated exchange. The Ministry has specifically directed local officials to fast-track the process of handing over 10 acres of replacement land to the medical institution. This one-for-three swap suggests the government recognizes the long-term value of both the road project and the premier medical facility.

Connectivity boost

When completed, the E-13 Road Extension Corridor promises to transform regional mobility. Union Minister of State for Rural Development Pemmasani Chandra Sekhar emphasized the project's significance, noting it will dramatically improve connectivity between Mangalagiri and Guntur. For residents and commuters, this means faster travel times and more robust infrastructure supporting the growing capital region.

"The Central and State governments, and the district administration are coordinating to resolve the land-related issue and facilitate the key road connectivity project," Union Minister Pemmasani Chandra Sekhar told The Hindu.

Pending land matters

Beyond the immediate swap, the Ministry has also advised officials to complete the demarcation and transfer of approximately 6 acres that remain pending from the original 183-acre allocation to AIIMS-Mangalagiri. This attention to detail suggests the government wants to resolve all land issues surrounding the medical institution while pushing forward with vital infrastructure projects.
