Just two days later, on August 31, two of the accused—Mohit, who had at least 14 criminal cases against him, and Sumit, with one case—were killed in an encounter in Shamli. A reward of ₹50,000 had been placed on each. But the hunt continues for the others involved, with senior officers assuring community leaders that arrests are imminent.
