Karimnagar Gears Up for AITUC's Three-Day State Conference Beginning Sunday

Karimnagar is bracing for a show of working-class solidarity this weekend. The three-day 4th State conference of the All-India Trade Union Congress (AITUC) is scheduled to begin in the city on Sunday (September 6), and organisers are preparing to bring workers and other sections of the toiling masses out onto the streets before the formal sessions get under way.

A rally to set the tone

The conference will not open behind closed doors — it will open on the streets. A rally of workers and other sections of the toiling masses will be organised from Dr B. R. Ambedkar Stadium to Circus Grounds on Sunday afternoon, marking the formal commencement of the State conference.

The rally will culminate in a public meeting later in the day, according to the organisers. For a trade union gathering, the choice of a public kickoff is telling: the message is meant to be heard well beyond the conference hall.

Senior leaders to address public meeting

The public meeting will feature prominent voices from the trade union movement and the Left political space. AITUC national general secretary Amarjeet Kaur, CPI State secretary and Kothagudem MLA Kunamneni Sambasiva Rao, and others will address the gathering.

What the three days look like

Once Sunday's public programme wraps up, the conference shifts indoors for its business sessions. The delegates' meeting and other sessions will be held at Padmanayaka Kalyana Mandapam in Karimnagar on September 7 and 8.

For Karimnagar, the next three days will bring the concerns of organised labour to the fore — first in the streets, then around the conference table, as delegates settle in for two days of deliberations.
