Minister Demands Suspension of Mysuru Inspector Over Ganesh Festival Remarks

Union Minister Pralhad Joshi has called for the immediate suspension of a police inspector in Mysuru district, alleging the officer intimidated Hindu devotees preparing for Ganeshotsava celebrations. The controversy erupted after Circle Inspector Mr. Dhananjay reportedly threatened young members of a Ganesh Mandal during a peace committee meeting in T. Narasipura.

The Confrontation

During the meeting, Mr. Dhananjay reportedly issued strict warnings to young festival organizers. He insisted the Ganesha procession avoid streets with mosques entirely, prohibiting firecrackers, dancing, or slogan-shouting in those areas. The inspector warned that any violation would meet with decisive police action—without leniency.

Minister's Response

Joshi's voice carried both frustration and defiance when he addressed reporters in Hubballi on September 13. He called the inspector's behavior "an unforgivable offence" against devout youth simply trying to celebrate their festival.

"It is truly unfortunate that in our own country and on our own soil, Hindus are forced to plead for permission to celebrate Ganeshotsava with grandeur," Joshi said.

The minister sharply questioned whether the officer acted on his own authority or under instructions from higher levels of Karnataka's Congress government. He accused the administration of "appeasement politics" and an anti-Hindu stance.
