Revanth Reddy Calls for Protests Demanding KCR's Exit as Telangana Opposition Leader

Telangana's political temperature just shot up. Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has urged Congress workers and the public to hit the streets, demanding that BRS president K. Chandrasekhar Rao resign as Leader of the Opposition — a post the Chief Minister says he has forfeited by skipping the Assembly and disappearing from public life.

A challenge thrown at a bridge inauguration

The attack came not from the floor of the House but from a public meeting in Hyderabad, where Revanth Reddy had just inaugurated a high-level bridge across the Musi river. Turning his fire on an Opposition leader he says has gone missing, he questioned whether any parallel existed in Indian politics.

"Is there any other Opposition leader in the country who has stayed out of the public eye for 1,000 days?"

He alleged the BRS had failed in its role as the principal Opposition, and said he was ready to explain what the Congress had done in its 1,000 days in office during the upcoming session.

The salary and security argument

Revanth Reddy put hard numbers behind his outrage. He claimed KCR had drawn ₹1.24 crore as salary during the 1,000-day period, while the government spent about ₹22 crore on his security and other facilities. Then came a comparison aimed squarely at ordinary government staff.

"If a government employee fails to report to duty for a year, they are dismissed. What should be done with KCR?" he asked.

Still, he left the door open for a face-off: "If KCR truly intends to do justice to Telangana and has faith, he must attend the Assembly. I am ready for a debate comparing what is KCR's and my government's performance in 1,000 days."

Family promotions vs. social representation

The Chief Minister also accused his predecessor of using political power to promote members of his own family. The Congress government, he asserted, had instead sought to ensure representation across social groups in its appointments and promotions.

The 1,000-day report card

Defending his government's record, Revanth Reddy said ration cards had been issued and six kilograms of fine-quality rice were being provided to 3.48 crore people — including BRS supporters. Seven lakh Indiramma houses, among them one lakh for poor families in Hyderabad, are under construction, and 72,000 jobs were filled in 1,000 days. 'Is this a failure as claimed by the BRS,' he asked.

He also cited the completed process for Scheduled Caste categorisation, the BC caste census, and new policies for gig workers, sports, information technology, tourism and endowments as achievements of his government.
