In a refreshing shift from typical startup awards that chase scale and revenue, Chennai’s ChinniKrishnan Innovation Awards 2026 chose to celebrate something far more fragile—and potentially transformative: the raw, early idea. On September 13, FMCG firm CavinKare, alongside the Madras Management Association, honored ten innovators whose concepts are still taking root, offering not just funding but something equally precious: belief.

Fueling Perseverance, Not Just Profit
C.K. Ranganathan, Chairman of CavinKare, set the tone by honoring his father’s legacy—Chinni Krishnan, the mind behind India’s sachet revolution. He didn’t just praise innovation; he championed grit. “He sold his agricultural land to feed his ambition,” Ranganathan recalled. “He went on to attempt 54 different business ideas. Innovators need to have perseverance; you can’t simply give up.”
Kamal Bali of Volvo Group India echoed that sentiment, reminding attendees that the journey itself—identifying a problem and chasing a solution—is a monumental achievement.
The Ideas That Stood Out
Three firms walked away with top honors—and ₹1 lakh each—in the innovation category. Biopioneer is working to preserve blood biomarkers without constant refrigeration, a potential game-changer for rural diagnostics. Prantae Solutions created a portable device to screen for kidney disease, aiming to reach underserved communities. And EF Polymer tackles farm water scarcity by turning fruit waste into a water-retaining soil additive.
Music Temple Private Limited earned the Special Jury Award for Gamaka Box—a written notation system that captures the intricate oscillations of Indian classical music, offering a way to teach and preserve ragas with stunning clarity.
More Than Money
Each winner also gained access to CavinKare’s expertise across marketing, finance, R&D, and more—a mentorship lifeline for ideas not yet ready for the market. Ten “Great Ideas” winners received ₹10,000 each, a nod to strong thinking and future potential. In a landscape obsessed with unicorns, Chennai chose to bet on seeds.
