Four Myanmar Nationals Detained in Bihar Over Missing Documents

Four individuals from Myanmar, including three young girls, found themselves in custody at Katihar railway station in Bihar this week after authorities discovered they lacked any valid identification or travel papers. The incident unfolded as the Kamakhya-Anand Vihar Superfast Express pulled into the station on Sunday, September 13, 2026.

How the Detention Unfolded

A team from the Railway Protection Force approached the four passengers as they stepped off the train. Inspector Vikram Kumar described how routine questioning quickly turned into something more serious when it became clear the group couldn't produce a single legitimate document between them. Their inability to show passports or citizenship certificates triggered immediate detention protocols.

"Upon the arrival of the train, a Railway Protection Force (RPF) team questioned the four persons and detained them as they could not produce valid passports, citizenship certificates or other legal identity documents," RPF inspector Vikram Kumar said.

After determining the group's Myanmar origins, the RPF transferred them to the Government Railway Police for formal processing. The GRP didn't waste time—they registered a case under Section 21 of the Immigration and Foreigners Act, 2025, and Section 3 of the Passport Act, 1920. For the three girls, special procedures are underway to present them before the Child Welfare Committee and Juvenile Justice Board, acknowledging their vulnerable status.
