During an extensive review meeting held at Rayachoti, Minister for Roads and Buildings B.C. Janardhan Reddy directed authorities to clear longstanding snags surrounding tenders, land acquisition, and pending contractor payments without letting timelines slide.

Officials reported that 81 sanctioned works are already underway on the ground, though delays in clearing completed project bills had created administrative friction.

Addressing the issue directly, Janardhan Reddy instructed officials to expedite bill clearances so that stalled work could resume without further disruption. Accompanied by Ministers Gottipati Ravi Kumar and Mandipalli Ramprasad Reddy, the review stressed accountability, urging engineers to maintain tight project schedules while adhering rigorously to safety benchmarks.

National Highway Upgrades and ₹1,000-Crore Tunnel

The state also assessed key central corridors traversing the district. Progress on the Rayachoti-Vempalli section of National Highway 440—executed with an outlay of ₹241.69 crore—is nearing the finish line, having reached 95% physical completion and 90% financial progress.

Meanwhile, preliminary groundwork has started on an ambitious mega-project: a four-lane tunnel spanning between km 211/500 and 217/200 along the Rayachoti-Kadapa stretch of NH-40. Estimated to cost ₹1,000 crore including approach roads, the project is currently in the soil exploration phase.

Transport Revenue Up, Road Casualties Decline

Transport and Sports Minister Mandipalli Ramprasad Reddy led a parallel assessment evaluating operational revenues, civic transport interfaces, and road accident prevention measures.

District records revealed positive shifts on safety. Between January and August 2026, road accidents in the district fell by 10.34%, accident-related fatalities decreased by 9.86%, and injuries dropped by 12.96% compared to the identical period the year prior. Concurrently, the Transport Department registered an 8.41% climb in revenue for 2025-26, collecting ₹110.45 crore.

Ramprasad Reddy instructed local transport officials to modernize public-facing digital tools, step up roadway vigilance, and sort out operational friction experienced by commercial vehicle owners at automated vehicle fitness-testing stations.
