In a curious twist to a residential burglary attempt, Kerala police have apprehended a young man from Assam after he was discovered sleeping inside a Thrissur home he had allegedly broken into.

The strange scene unfolded on September 11 when the complainant and his friend arrived at a house owned by the complainant's father behind the Manathala Block Office. Both front and back doors showed signs of forced entry—already an alarming sight.

But what they found upstairs was even more surprising: a man fast asleep in one of the bedrooms, as if the house were his own.

Police response and investigation

Police arrived promptly after being alerted and took the sleeping suspect into custody. During questioning, they identified him as Radheshyam Garh from Assam's Dibrugarh district.

Investigators found evidence that Garh had rummaged through cupboards and storage spaces, scattering belongings in what appeared to be a search for valuables. The complainant later identified Garh at the police station.

Language barriers and legal proceedings

Facing a language gap—Garh doesn't understand Malayalam—police arranged for an Assamese-speaking interpreter to ensure the accused understood the charges and legal process.

After completing formal procedures, officers formally arrested Garh around 10:15 a.m. on September 12. The court has remanded him to custody while the case proceeds at Chavakkad police station.
