The India Meteorological Department (IMD) warned of continuing downpours through September 5, with particular urgency for northwestern regions.

Dumaria in East Singhbhum bore the brunt of nature's fury, registering 217 mm of rain since Monday. Dumri in Giridih followed with 162.2 mm, while Mahuadawar in Latehar recorded 146.2 mm. The IMD's bulletin placed Garhwa, Palamu, Latehar, Lohardaga, Gumla, Khunti, Saraikela-Kharsawan, West and East Singhbhum, and Simdega under flash flood warning until Wednesday morning.

The weather office issued a 'red' alert—indicating very heavy rains—for Garhwa, Palamu, Simdega, and West Singhbhum districts. An orange alert covers Latehar, Lohardaga, Gumla, Khunti, and Sarikela-Kharsawan until September 2 morning.

Rising Rivers and Official Response

In Jamshedpur, the relentless rains and water discharge from dams in Odisha and Jharkhand pushed the Kharkhai and Swarnarekha rivers past their danger marks. The Kharkhai River at Adityapur bridge reached 133.10 meters—4.10 meters above the red mark—while the Subarnarekha flowed at 122.60 meters against a danger level of 121.50 meters.

"Heavy to very heavy rain is likely to occur in several districts. The wind speed will be 30 to 40 kmph," said Abhishek Anand, deputy director of the weather office in Ranchi.

The district administration urgently advised residents in low-lying areas to relocate to safer ground. Meanwhile, Dumka recorded the highest day temperature at 31.4°C, with Pakur at 31.3°C and Daltonganj in Palamu at 30.5°C.

Northwestern districts including Garhwa, Palamu, Chatra, and Latehar are expected to receive heavy rain on Wednesday. Similar conditions are likely across much of the state through Friday, September 4, keeping authorities and residents on high alert.
