In a dramatic sting operation in Kalaburagi, Karnataka Lokayukta police caught a constable accepting a bribe of ₹20,000—but his partner in crime slipped away moments before officers could identify him.

Threats and intimidation

The two constables, Parashuram and Veeresh, had allegedly been visiting the home of Kanna Raju Patil in Bapu Nagar, accusing his son Karthik of involvement in theft and robbery. They threatened to keep him at the police station overnight and extern him from the area unless paid.

Initially demanding ₹1 lakh, the officers had already received ₹50,000 as an advance before insisting on another ₹20,000, according to the complaint.

The trap and escape

Acting on Patil's report, Lokayukta police set a trap. They caught Parashuram red-handed as he accepted the money. But Veeresh, sensing danger, vanished into the crowd of uniformed officers before he could be identified.

“There were five to six policemen in uniform. Our officers caught Parashuram while he was accepting the bribe. Before they could identify Veeresh, he escaped from the spot. We will nab him shortly,” said Karnataka Lokayukta Superintendent of Police Siddaraju C.

Manhunt underway

The Lokayukta police have launched a search for Veeresh, who remains at large. The incident highlights ongoing challenges with police corruption in the region, even as anti-corruption units demonstrate they're watching and acting.
