Kerala Launches Virtual Stage for Differently Abled Artists

In a move that promises to amplify voices often left in the shadows, Kerala’s Social Justice department is set to launch a dedicated virtual platform for differently abled artists. Dubbed ‘Rhythm Virtual Platform,’ this initiative seeks to transform how talents within this community are seen, heard, and valued.

Building on a Foundation of Inclusion

The project grows out of the department’s earlier efforts. Back in 2023, they established Rhythm—a 20-member state art troupe composed of intellectually challenged artists. That offline initiative provided training, performance slots, and a shot at earning recognition and income. Now, they’re taking that vision digital.

How the Platform Works

Rhythm Virtual Platform isn’t just another website. It’s conceived as a professional ecosystem. Through high-quality video production, live streaming, and social media promotion, it will document, showcase, and disseminate the work of these artists. The aim? To make their performances accessible to government bodies, cultural organizations, event planners, and the general public.

“Artistic expression is not only about showcasing talent but part of the rehabilitation process also. A virtual platform will further decentralize the vision and make it more inclusive so as to reach more differently abled persons,” says Social Justice Director Arun S. Nair.

A Community, Not Just a Catalog

Beyond visibility and earnings, the platform hopes to foster something deeper: belonging. For artists and caregivers alike, it will offer a space to connect, share, and engage in leisure together. Selection and training will happen at the district level, easing access and nurturing local talent pools. The department has already called for experienced agencies to handle technical services, signaling that rollout is imminent.
