Former Indian international cricketer VVS Laxman has revealed the reasons behind his decision not to step into the role of head coach for the Indian men's national cricket team following the conclusion of Rahul Dravid's tenure.

Personal Reasons Prevented Taking Up the Role

Addressing his decision, Laxman explained that he was in line to assume the head coaching responsibility in 2023 but was unable to accept the offer. He cited personal reasons for declining the high-profile coaching position when the opportunity presented itself.

"In 2023, I was supposed to be head coach, could not take up due to personal reasons," Laxman stated regarding his decision to step aside from the national team opening.

Focus on Infrastructure and Women's World Cup Success

Alongside clarifying his coaching position, Laxman highlighted major developments within the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) infrastructure, notably the development of the new BCCI Centre of Excellence (CoE). Led by Jay Shah's team, the project successfully transformed 40 acres of previously barren land into a modern, state-of-the-art facility dedicated to training and athlete recovery.

Reflecting on his broader stint overseeing player development, Laxman singled out a significant milestone for Indian sports, praising the India Women's cricket team for securing the 2025 World Cup title. He labeled the historic victory as a primary high point during his tenure with the national cricket development system.
