Modi Celebrates 100 Years of SRCC, Marks Centenary With ₹100 Coin

Arriving by metro and surrounded by eager commuters, Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Delhi University's Shri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC) on Saturday, September 5, 2026, to celebrate the prestigious institution reaching its historic 100-year milestone.

A Metro Journey to North Campus

Rather than arriving via a conventional motorcade, the Prime Minister opted to commute through the city's transit network. Visuals from the journey captured Modi interacting with school-aged children and commuters before arriving at the institution for its evening celebrations.

Addressing the gathering alongside dignitaries, including Union Minister Pralhad Joshi and journalist Rajat Sharma, the Prime Minister formally unveiled a commemorative ₹100 coin struck specifically to honor SRCC's hundred years of institutional history.

"In a short while from now, at 7 PM, I will be at Delhi University's iconic Shri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC) to take part in its centenary celebrations. This college has distinguished itself over the years, making a mark for academic excellence, institution-building and for nurturing generations of leaders in business, public life and society."

A Decade-Long Relationship and Youth Outreach

The Prime Minister's campus appearance aligns with an ongoing youth engagement push by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Modi's history with SRCC stretches back over a decade; he famously addressed students at the college auditorium in 2013 while serving as Chief Minister of Gujarat.

Saturday's event followed an earlier engagement in April 2026, when Modi hosted members of SRCC's governing body and an institutional delegation at his official residence. During that meeting, he released a commemorative postage stamp marking the college's founding century.
