In a significant move to future-proof the state's energy grid, Andhra Pradesh's Energy Minister Gottipati Ravi Kumar has laid out an ambitious plan to strengthen power infrastructure across the region. The announcement came during a review meeting in Rayachoti, where the minister emphasized the need to anticipate growing demand and ensure reliable electricity for all residents.

Meeting Future Demand

Minister Ravi Kumar didn't mince words during the Saturday meeting. He instructed officials to look five years ahead, identifying areas where power consumption is likely to spike and building capacity accordingly. The state has already grounded infrastructure works worth thousands of crores, including transformers, substations, and critical power lines that will form the backbone of this upgraded network.

Renewable Energy Push

The solar energy initiatives received particular attention. Under the Surya Ghar scheme, the government has already connected 600,000 SC and ST households—a number that's set to grow as the program expands to backward-class families. The state is sweetening the deal with an extra ₹20,000 subsidy on top of the central government's support for each connection.

"Officials should strengthen higher-capacity substations and transmission lines wherever necessary," Minister Ravi Kumar stated, highlighting the comprehensive approach to grid modernization.

Safety and Agricultural Focus

Beyond infrastructure, the minister addressed two critical concerns: farmer welfare and public safety. He demanded an action plan for daytime quality power supply to agricultural operations and accelerated implementation of the PM-KUSUM scheme. Simultaneously, he called for identifying and addressing hazardous power lines passing over residential areas to prevent accidents.
